At Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, Brick From a Stone—the partnership between Albion Stone and Hutton Stone—was proud to see its natural stone bricks take centre stage in an eye-catching installation that demonstrated both structural strength and refined beauty.

Designed by acclaimed architects Hawkins\Brown and engineered by Webb Yates, the pair of stone arches stood as a bold statement of what’s possible when traditional materials are reimagined with creativity and craftsmanship. Built using Heritage Portland Stone Bricks from Albion Stone and Darney Heritage Stone Bricks from Hutton Stone, the installation drew large crowds and widespread admiration across the festival.
The arches weren’t just beautiful—they were purposeful. They were specifically designed to highlight one of the key advantages of natural stone bricks: superior strength. Unlike clay bricks, stone bricks can bear far greater loads, allowing for the creation of slender, graceful forms that don’t compromise on durability or performance. The result? A structure that was as elegant as it was robust—proving that sustainability, heritage, and innovation can go hand in hand.
As Brick From a Stone, we’re passionate about promoting the use of local stone bricks as a low-carbon, high-performance alternative to more conventional materials. This installation offered the perfect platform to show how these materials can be used not only for their technical benefits, but also to create architecture of true character and distinction.
The reception throughout Clerkenwell Design Week was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to continue working with architects, engineers, and clients who want to build with both beauty and integrity—brick by stone brick.
