Darney Stone Bricks Complete Striking Facade at Edinburgh Park

A new Primary Substation is taking shape at Edinburgh Park, tucked behind the site's striking multi-storey car park. Designed by Parabola Architects and built by main contractor Luddon Construction, the substation will supply power to the entire Southern Phase development - a fully electric scheme that will do without fossil fuels entirely, drawing its supply from the nearby Sighthill grid substation.

Darney Heritage Stone Bricks supplied by Hutton Stone have been used across the switch room's elevations, laid in a neat, coursed pattern that gives the building a warm, textured base. The stone was specified to sit quietly alongside the site's more utilitarian elements, while still bringing genuine material quality to the building. It also holds its own against the bold orange and green striped fencing that wraps the compound, echoing the perforated orange cladding of the multi-storey car park above.

Even for a utilitarian structure like a substation, the choice of material matters. The choice of a durable, low-maintenance natural stone brick makes sense. Darney will weather gracefully with minimal upkeep, a fitting quality for a building designed to quietly keep the whole development powered for decades to come.
